Things to do in Gdynia

Gdynia is not an old town to wander - it barely existed before 1921, when Poland began building a port here from scratch, and the city that grew around it is a showcase of interwar modernist architecture rather than brick Gothic. There is no medieval core to look for.

The two fixed points are the moored museum ships at the waterfront: the tall ship Dar Pomorza and the destroyer ORP Blyskawica, both open for a self-guided walk aboard for a small ticket, roughly an hour each. Above the harbour, Kamienna Gora hill gives a free view over the port and Bay of Gdansk.

The Emigration Museum, housed in the former Marine Station where transatlantic liners once departed, and Gdynia Aquarium both need a couple of hours and a separate ticket. Gdynia is reached from Gdansk by SKM commuter train in well under an hour.
